Why Tamilnadu People Not Speaking Tamil

There is a huge difference between a NEED and a WANT

A need is something without which a person cannot survive whereas a want is a desire for something.

Tamils do speak in English but that's too rare while conversing among the natives. We don't (except a few) want to brag ourselves carrying the tag of ‘straigt outta The States’.

I just can't imagine talking to my bestie as ‘Hey Dude, Wassup. Can we plan a movie today?’ Instead it would be as simple as ‘Adiye, padathuku polama di?’ meaning the same.

Even if I tend to speak English to my bestie anytime, am sure he/she would make fun of me atleast for the next couple of days. My friends gang would definitely make a great fuss turning my English speaking as a sensational topic, literally.

Not that we don't adapt English and are resistant to socialise. It is just that we never want to boast and brag.

Then when do Tamils speak English?

When we have to mingle with people of other regions, and especially when we are left stranded without knowing other regional languages we Tamils definitely speak English at that time.

It is just like a Keralite speaking in Malayalam among themselves, it is just like a person in Himachal conversing in Himadri among the natives.

Nothing much!
